Professional internships
The internships that are organized in the first year of the bachelor's degree in Oral Hygiene are observation internships. They aim to familiarize the student with his future professional environment.
The professional integration activities of BLOC 1 are divided into 2 parts:
- Observation internships in a dental practice outside the BRULL Polyclinics (private practice) (24h). You will get more practical information about this internship during the HEPL information/welcome session.
All useful documents can also be found on the HBD padlet of the HEPL.
- Observation courses on the BRULL site (16h)
During passive internships, the student will observe how a trainee dentist (Master 1 or 2) or hygienist (2nd or 3rd year) manages his schedule (respecting schedules), takes care of his patients (listening and communicating with patients, order of priorities of the treatments undertaken), carries out the necessary care (anticipation and difficulties), completes a medical file (anamnesis, treatment carried out, etc.).
The Block 1 hygienist trainee will actively participate in welcoming the patient and will ensure that he assists the dentist or the hygienist in his care activities (4-hand work). The collaboration between the trainee dentist/hygienist and the trainee hygienist of Block 1 will always be in the interest of the patient.
Under the supervision of the room staff, the trainee will prepare the equipment and biomaterials necessary for the realization of the various treatments provided by the dentist. He will also apply the rules of asepsis and cleanliness necessary in a dental office. Finally, he will acquire the basics of sterilization by clearing the treatment tables himself and taking advantage of the advice and instructions of the sterilization staff.
Although the observation internship is a passive internship, the student must demonstrate a certain pro-activity. He will get involved, will show great availability towards the dental trainees and the room staff. Availability implies that the student is effectively and efficiently present in the room during all of his internship hours.
