Learning unit contents

This course mainly focuses on how to exercise the profession of speech & language therapist in the French-speaking part of Belgium. It follows on from the course taught by A. Blavier: PSYC0086-1, General ethics of the speech & language therapist.

It includes the following points:

  • Introduction
  • Administrative steps at the beginning of professional activity (self-employed and employee status)
  • Introduction to the nomenclature
  • Daily management
  • Code of ethics
  • Professional associations and organisations
  • Professional journals
The course also invites students to discuss ethical issues on the basis of their experiences during their placement.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

At the end of this course, students will be able to :
1. To learn what steps need to be taken to become self-employed.
2. To be made aware of the different rules of the code of ethics, to be able to act and react appropriately in difficult professional situations.
3. To know who to contact in case of a dispute.
