Units courses prerequisite and corequisite

Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program

Learning unit contents

The course aims at introducing students to history-related articles. It aims at consolidating reading comprehension strategies,  improving students' vocabulary as well as enhancing their understanding of the language structures that are used in history-related texts.

Basic everyday vocabulary and basic grammar structures are revised with the help of the textbook "Berliner Platz 1" in order to help students understand history-related texts/articles better. This handbook focuses on a communicative approach. Grammatical structures will be introduced progressively. By the end of the course, students should be able to use the vocabulary of the handbook, as well as the vocabulary seen in class. They should also be able to use basic and more complex grammatical structures efficiently.

The grammar textbook will also help acquiring grammatical structures.

written exam AND oral exam

Additional information:

Written and oral exam: (marking criteria in case of an in-person exam)

- Written exam: 20

- Oral exam: 10

In case of an online exam, the marking criteria will be adjusted.

The mark of the written midterm exam in January (which will not lead to any exemption) will count for 10% of the June final grade if it reaches 10/20 or more. The mark will have no effect on the final grade if it doesn't reach 10/20.

All parts of the June and September exams are compulsory. Students absent from one of the exam parts will be assigned a mark of 0.

Students who do not take both the written and the oral parts of the exam will be assigned a mark of 0. (No partial exemption will be granted, except for the mid-year exam; see above). The same rule applies to the second exam session, which means that students who failed the exam in June will have to resit both parts of the exam.

Class participation is compulsory.
