Learning unit contents
This course is devoted to the history, manufacture, composition, and physico-chemical properties of the coloring materials used in the graphic arts from the industrial revolution to the present day. Among the topics covered are:
-Historical context
-Chemical classification of dyestuffs
-Synthetic organic and inorganic pigments
-Main categories and subcategories of synthetic pigments by color
-Documentary sources
-Interests in the history of technical art
-Methods of identification
- Conservation-restoration of works of art
-Case studies

The theory and associated practical work are delivered face-to-face.
