PART "STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT"

- Presentation of the global context (economic, societal, technological, political... challenges)

- Introduction to the basic concepts related to strategy

- Section 1: Strategic diagnosis (external and internal analyses)

- Section 2: Strategic formulation (generic competitive strategies, corporate strategies and growth modalities)

- Section 3: Strategic implementation

PART "PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT"

- Evolution of the role of management control within organizations

- Operational management control : management charts and performance indicators

- The balanced scorecard : performance measurement tool and strategic management

- Sustainable performance measurement

 

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

PART "STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT"

At the end of the course, consistent with the KLO of HEC Liège, students should :

- Understand the global economic context in which companies operate

- Master the basic concepts related to strategy (mission, vision, business units, SWOT, PESTER, PORTER, etc.)

- Be able, on the basis of a concrete case study, to make a complete strategic diagnosis, to elaborate several strategic scenarios and to explain how he would implement the selected strategic proposal

- Demonstrate a flexible mind and a ability to adapt the managerial tools presented to the complexity of our Society

PART "PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT"

At the end of the course, the student must be able to :
- place performance management in the global context of the company, in connection with the strategy and operational activities
- define the concepts of dashboard and balanced scorecard and find ad hoc KPI's, ...

PART "STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT"

The learning process can be divided into three main methods:

1. Academic sessions + Participation to conferences given practitioners (CEO, consultants)

2. Autonomous mandatory/required readings. These aim at enlarging the general knowledge of students regarding key concepts in strategic management

3. Students will have the opportunity to work on concrete case studies during the sessions and to share experiences with experts in strategic management

The written exam will be based on the concepts developed during the courses, during the case studies as well as in the compulsory readings

PART "PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT"

Theoretical concepts and the description of methods and tools are illustrated each time by concrete examples.cIn addition, some sessions take place in the form of flipped classes with wooclap tests. Case studies are submitted to the students' reflection.

Language: French

Documents such as slides, exercises, case studies, videos, etc. will be available on the platform Lol@ ; so students should consult it regularly. Furthermore e-mails will be sent to students on their official ULiege e-mail address.

Within 4 weeks (maximum) of the publication of exam results (via Lol@ or MyULiège), students who wish to do so may come to HEC to consult their papers at a time agreed with the professor. To do so, they must attend a session scheduled for this purpose by the teacher or, if the teacher has not set a date when the results are communicated, request an appointment by e-mail within a maximum of one week of publication of the results
