Learning unit contents

The course aims to introduce basic legal concepts. In other words, its purpose is to present the key notions in order to allow the student to better grasp the legal phenomenon as a whole.
The course is composed of ten sheets, each dedicated to one aspect of law : I. Law; II. The State; III. The structures of the State; IV. Public International Law; V. International Organisations; VI. The Limited State - Fundamental Rights; VII. Criminal Law; VIII. Private Law; IX. Public Finance and Tax Law; X. Dispute resolution methods.
Each fact sheet stress the main elements of the topic, as well as pedagogical illustrations and current controversies. It should be noted that the aim of the course is not to present Belgian law, but on the contrary to examine the law in a general way, using comparative law elements.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

The modalities described in the previous section are intended to give to the students the ability to present the main rules of the functioning of modern States and the general legal concepts.
The purpose of the course is to give students the essential basis for understanding legal logic, for explaining basic terms and concepts and for relating a particular issue to the relevant branch of law.
