Units courses prerequisite and corequisite

Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program

Learning unit contents

This course will introduce students to the practice of the assessement and the intervention on children with learning disabilities in mathematics. The course will present the tools currently available for assessing numerical and arithmetic skills. The indications for the use of each test will be discussed as well as their advantages and limitations. With regard to the intervention, the course will present the logic underlying the construction of baselines and the rehabilitations which have been the subject of an empirical validation. Current practices in the revalidation of mathematics learning difficulties will also be presented.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

The objective of this course is to introduce students to the good practices in the assessment and the intervention on mathematic learning disabilities. Students should be able to choose and use the tests and propose theory-based revalidation activities

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

A good knowledge of the typical and pathological development of mathematical skills is essential for this course. This knowledge is included in the course Development and calculation disabilities (PSCY1120).

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Several methods of learning are used to enable students to exercise their pratical skills. This course is based on an oral presentation of the tools and techniques of management through demonstration, audio-visual support and material handling. The teaching system is interactive. The class is encouraged to discuss the choice of tools and the relevance of the proposed revalidation activities (e.g., to identify the positive and negative points of the proposed rehabilitation)

Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)

Face-to-face. The presence is mandatoty.

Recommended or required readings

The slides will be posted on the e-campus platform
