Learning unit contents
Advanced introduction to the reading of a work of modern Dutch literary prose. Discussion and use of the narratological tools.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
Familiarising the students with the current methodology in the field of the interpretation of Dutch literary prose, in order to prepare them for the writing of a Master's thesis and of papers.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
A good command of spoken and written Dutch.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Lectures and presentations on the life and work of Hugo Claus and on their context.
Analysis of the novel De verwondering and discussion of its historical and ideological context.
