Learning unit contents
Reading and analysis of criminology-related academic texts.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
The course aims to help students improve their grammar skills and expand their specialized vocabulary in order for them to be able to understand a criminology-related academic text.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Though the course is intended for beginners, a basic knowledge of the English language is essential.
We highly recommend that beginners and students requiring a deep revision of the basics of the English language take part in one of the many additional English courses by the Foreign Language Institute (ISLV). Further information is available at https://www.islv.uliege.be/cms/c_10332480/fr/institut-superieur-des-langues-vivantes. One has to sign up online by September 25th, 2022.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Students are required to actively participate in the 2-hour weekly sessions AND to read and prepare the texts at home beforehand.

Continuous assessment
Additional information:
January (20%): wriiten exam on an unseen part of a text previously analysed in class.
June (65%): written exam on an unseen text.
Continuous assessment (15%): written assignments. The mark for the continuous assessment will be kept in case students have to retake the exam in August.

Organizational remarks
A test will take place on October 6th, 2022 in Tocqueville (31) et Trifac 3 (B33) from 8.30-10.30. Students who don't pass this test will be divided into two identical level groups. The class will be held every Thursday from 8.30 to 10.30 in Sart Tilman (see CELCAT).
