Improvement of researching techniques and methods in medieval history

The completion of the end of cycle work (TFC) is an opportunity for the student at the end of the Bachelor's degree to implement the theoretical knowledge, the heuristic approach, the critical skills and the writing skills acquired throughout his training. The student will work independently on an original subject, taking advantage regularly, and according to the terms agreed between them, of the advice of the teacher who provides the Exercises course to which the TFC is linked.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

At the end of year, the student will be able to

  • establish an exhaustive bibliography on a chosen subject
  • establish the state of the question
  • formulate a problematic
  • identify a research question
  • decide on a research method
  • build up a corpus of sources
  • exploit a corpus of sources (identification, translation, interpretation)
  • synthetise and communicate the results of his/her research in clear and precise oral or written scientific French

Have a good command of the oral and written French

QI : 

  • Continuation of the methodological reflection on the typology of sources of the Western Middle Ages begun in the course HIST0270-1.
  • Collective critical translation of latin sources and individual interpretation.

QII : Time for the implementation of a supervised individual research

For students preparing a TFC in medieval history, additional sessions at the QI devoted to the definition of an original and personal research problem.
