Units courses prerequisite and corequisite

Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program

Learning unit contents

Part 1 : Renewable and non-renewable energy resources

The course revolves around the presentation of the different energy vectors (renewable and non-renewable) used (commonly and less commonly) for the energy supply of our country: oil, coal, natural gas, nuclear, hydrogen, biomass and renewable energies.

Part 2 : Technological innovations (materials, systems, vehicles)

The goal of the lecture is to introduce students with the running developments of technologies to increase efficiency of energy and material usage in the differents sectors as transport, industry, buildings, and production and distribution of energy (as electricity)

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

Part 1 : Renewable and non-renewable energy resources

By the end of this course, the student will have a global vision of the issues related to the energy supply of our country, and the energy vectors used today to achieve it. He will have the capacity to form an informed opinion on the current situation, and to analyze the energy market in full knowledge of the facts.

Part 2 : Technological innovations (materials, systems, vehicles)

  • To be able to set up a litterature survey and a state of the art of the technology
  • To be able to write a summary of the available information
  • To be able to develop an action plan to propose innovative solutions for a given present problem

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Part 1 : Renewable and non-renewable energy resources

None

Part 2 : Technological innovations (materials, systems, vehicles)

Basic Lectures in Physics and Chemistry

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Part 1 : Renewable and non-renewable energy resources

Lectures, and practical group work (analysis of the energy market in a country or region of their choice).

Part 2 : Technological innovations (materials, systems, vehicles)

  • Lectures
  • Lab tour

Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)

Part 1 : Renewable and non-renewable energy resources

Face-to-face or remote, depending on the circumstances.

Part 2 : Technological innovations (materials, systems, vehicles)

Blended learning

Additional information:

  • In person participation
  • Personnal project to investigate one topics covered by the introduction lectures

Recommended or required readings

Part 1 : Renewable and non-renewable energy resources

None

Part 1 : Renewable and non-renewable energy resources

The overall assessment focuses on the completion of a practical work (in groups, 1/3 of the points) and on the success of an oral exam (2/3 of the points) covering both the practical work and the concepts theory developed during the course.
In the case of distance learning under a red code for at least half of the periods scheduled in the schedule, the final score will be established by giving increased importance to practical work (rising to 50% of the overall score), vis-à-vis the exam (rising to 50% of the overall rating). The oral exam will then include a question on the practical work, followed by a question on the theoretical material (a second question may be asked to the student in the event of inadequacy in the first question).

Part 2 : Technological innovations (materials, systems, vehicles)

Exam(s) in session

Any session

- Remote

oral exam

Additional information:

  • Production of a littertaure and technological review, then analysis of the situation and developement of a synthesis work to propose innovative solutions
