Learning unit contents

Multiphased reactors classification, Methodology, spatial and temporal scales, hydronamical regime. Differential reactors,heat and mass transfer, internal, external, coupling, global efficiency. Gas-liquid-solid bubble columns: description,hydrodynamical regimes, modelisation, transfer parameter estimations. Gas-liquid-solid mechanically agitated slurry reactors: description, hydrodynamical regimes, modelisation, transfer parameter estimations. Trickle-bed reactors: desctiption, hydrodynamical regimes, wetting, modelisation, transfer parameter estimations. Introduction to numerical methods: ordinary diffential equations, partial differential equations, orthogonal collocation.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

Application of the Chemical Reaction Engineering methods to the complex situations occurring in the description of multiphased reactors

This course contributes to the learning outcomes I.2, II.1, II.2, III.1, III.2, IV.1, IV.4, VI.1, VII.1, VII.2 of the MSc in chemical and material science engineering.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

In small groups, it consists in a quatitative explanation of results coming from the Chemical Engineering literature.
