Learning unit contents

The course offers a theoretical and practical introduction to the translation of different types of texts (informative, persuasive, expressive texts) from French into Dutch. The topics covered will mainly be of a general nature (e.g. society, tourism, education, environment, health), although some more specific topics (e.g. literature, economics, law) may also be introduced. We will use mostly (semi-)authentic texts. In addition, the course aims to deepen the students' lexical and grammatical knowledge as well as their translation skills into the target language. Finally, the course offers an introduction to corpus-based translation studies through a research project using parallel corpora.
