The course will analyze the relations between scientific practices and social and politcal issues
Advanced philosophy of sciences
Starting from specific issues of contemporary science (especially in mathematics, physics and biology), epistemological questions will be raised within a dialogue between scientists and philosophers.

Seminar on the philosophy of sciences
The organization of the seminar and its content may vary depending on the number of participants. The following is a general outline. A first session will be organized in October or November. The teachers will present a few books. Each student will have to choose one of these books, which will constitute the basis of a work that he/she will prepare with the help of the teachers and that he/she will present during a Q2 session. A study day with several foreign colleagues will be organized during the week of April 18 (date to be determined) around the question of the Anthropocene. Students registered in the seminar are required to attend this day.
Advanced philosophy of sciences
The seminar is devoted to the consideration of questions in the fields of
-general epistemology (including realism in science);
-philosophy of mathematics,
-philosophy of physics (including issues related to general relativity and quantum mechanics);
-philosophy of biology (including sexual and asexual reproduction, sexual differentiation; genetic manipulation as well as egg and embryo manipulation; origin of life and life diversification; origin of man and genetic diversity; anthropogenic influences and ecology).
The detailed program of the seminar will be fixed at the beginning of the academic year in the eyes of the students attending it.
Students who would like to attend the seminar are requested to contact the teachers before the 1st of October 2021.
First session of the seminar should be held on Wednesday the 6th of October from 1 to 3pm.

Oral and written presentation of an essay (10 pages) articulating epistemological questions with some of the scientific problems considered in the seminar. These scientific problems should be adequately mastered.
The topic of the essay should be chosen before March 31. The essay itself should be orally presented at the beginning of May and handed in before May 15 (or August 15).

Students who plan to register for this course are expected to send a mail to laurence.bouquiaux@uliege.be before october 8. Otherwise, they won't be allowed to validate the cours for the academic year 2021-2022.
