Learning unit contents

The course Questions d'actualité provides an overview of some of the main topics and narrative patterns/devices adressed by the national and international press (the judicial system in Belgium, international terrorism, fake news, social networks, etc.), for the purpose of providing some tools to better understand and interpret media reports.
Some external debates and lectures will complement the course program.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

At the end of this course, the students will be able to handle critically the mainstream news coverage thanks to their knowledge of some of its main topics and narrative devices.

Formal lectures interrupted by q&a's with the students.
Depending on the actuality, students may be invited to attend an extra lecture outside the regular course schedule.
