Learning unit contents
- Critical and historical approach to para-literary genres, from popular novels and romantic novels to SF books or crime novels.
- Construction of a problematic regarding artistic vs. popular literature as a fundamental distinction operating in the francophone cultural universe.
- Introduction to different literary genres.
- Study of the relationships between popular literature and media cultures in the broad sense, with an introduction to the disciplines that take these cultures as their main object (fan studies, cultural studies).
- Focalization on Cyberpunk and his derivatives.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
- To understand and explicate in a historical and sociological manner the emergence of para-literature in the 19th, 20th and 21th centuries.
- Enable students to formulate problems within these genres and their relationship with the general literature.
