Learning unit contents

The class is divided into 10 sessions, the first of which is an introduction to the class. 7 sessions are centered around the book "False Alarm" by B. Lomborg. 2 sessions deal with writing an essay.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

The two main objectives are the following:

  • the ability to write an essay on climate change defending an orginal thesis in rich and correct English;
  • the ability to defend one's essay in fluent and correct English.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

B2+ level (CEFR).

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The class is mainly taught in the shape of group oral presentations. Each of the 7 discussion sessions is chaired by a group that manages the discussion and organizes a discussion activity based on a video.

The finale grade is calculated as follows:

  • Written exam (50%)
  • Oral exam (40%)
  • Chairing a session (5%)*
  • Classwork: attendance and homework (5%)*
* The grades obtained for those modules are transferred from the first to the second session. They cannot be improved.
The written exam grade can be transferred to the second session if it is equal or superior to 10/20.
