Learning unit contents

This courses starts with an introduction to land surveying which present in a broad but superficiel way all the surveying operations (levelling, traversing, survey, setting out) and the associated instruments (levels, theodolite, total station).Then, laserscanning techniques and operational GNSS are presented during specific seminars. Techniques are illustred through archaeology and build Cultural Heritage applications

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

- to get a basic knowledge of surveying operations and practical methods - to get a basic knowledge of the instruments - to be able to organise a small surveying work - to be able to exchange with geomaticians

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

The course assumes good knowledge of basic mathematics: geometry, trigonometry, as well as of some elements of general physics: optical and electronic mechanics.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

In addition to the theoretical course, 3 practical work sessions are organised (problem-based). These will include field work such as a closed levelling, a traverse and a tacheometric site survey.
