Learning unit contents
The course first comes back on some of the classical themes of economic anthropology, namely interest, gift exchange, the market, and consumption. In the second part of the course, we analyse in more detail how anthropologists have dealt with the issue of capitalism and wage work.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
To introduce students to debates in economic anthropology. At the end of the course students will be able to analyze so-called 'economic' processes from an original and critical perspective.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
To have an interest in rethinking economic analysis, and hence in reflecting upon social changes with new conceptual tools.
