Learning unit contents

Following the course Social and Cultural Anthropology 1, this course covers the theoretical developments that have marked the discipline from the 1960s to the present. It is divided into three parts: Domination and history; Identity and globalization; Science and nature. The theories dealing with these issues are illustrated by concrete case studies taken from various ethnographic contexts.
 
 

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

To introduce students to recent anthropological theories. At the end of the course, students will be able to highlight these theories' contribution to some of the key debates of our time.

Students must in principle have completed the course of Social and Cultural Anthropology 1

Students receive compulsory readings at the beginning of the course. The  powerpoint presentations and, if the room has the necessary equipment, the course podcasts are posted on MyUliège every week.
