The course of « Ethology » represents 2 ECTS. It will be given in auditorium. There is no practical work in the laboratory. However, the teacher can adapt the content of the course as well as the activities according to any scientific or academic opportunities or constraints.
The course is constructed around the four Tinbergen's questions and describes the animal behaviour using the four approaches : the study of the function, ontogenesis, evolution and mechanisms of an animal behaviour. It also focuses on the special aspects of societies and chemical ecology.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
After the course, the student should be able to apply the issues Tinbergen specific behavioral traits in particular:
-> To present the ontogenetic bases for the development of animal behavior
-> Describe how changes impact the development of a behavioral trait
-> To present and discuss the function of a behavior
