Learning unit contents

The externship proceeds over one contiunuous 12 week period or two continuous periods of 6 weeks each. It is carried out under the responsability of one or two supervisors.
 

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

Evaluation of the applied knowledge (knowledge)
1. The trainee is good at summing up the data obtained from the anamnesis.
2. The trainee is capable of obtaining relevant signs and manage to establish a differential diagnosis.
3. The trainee builds up a personal reflection on the different cases presented.
Evaluation of the progress in technical acts (know-how)
4. The trainee has a good mastery of the basic practical procedures (restrain, auscultation, ...)
5. The trainee shows a technical dexterity during surgical operations
6. The trainee knows how to use correctly the available equipment (of medical imaging, laboratory, ...)
Evaluation of the quality of the relations with all the people (knowledge-being)
7. The trainee pays attention to the practitionner, the staff and the client.
8. The trainee has no difficulty in communicating
9. The trainee shows judicious initiatives translating his interest for the job
Evaluation of the professional potential of the trainee
10. The trainee seems competent to be a locum immediately

Assessment methods and criteria

Below you will find information on the evaluation methods planned for in-person and remote exams as well as those planned for hybrid sessions. Depending on how the health crisis evolves, the chosen method will be communicated to you no later than one month before the start of the exam session.

The supervisor(s) will have to complete an evaluation form at the end of the externship. A global note will be calculated from a numerical score and from the answers concerning the learning outcomes, both given by the supervisor(s).
ATTENTION (modification November 1th 2018):
You have to fill a new questionnaire about you stage(s): see url on the french version. This is compulsory in order to validate your final note.
 
ATTENTION (modification September 14th 2020):
You have to create a "case log" (see instructions on eCampus).

Work placement(s)

The externship is carried out within clinical practices or various institutions or enterprises.

Organizational remarks

The supervisor(s) are Doctor(s) in Veterinary Medicine since at least 5 years. Before the beginning of the externship and at least at the moment described in the "insurance form", a standard convention is signed by the student and the supervisor(s).
Each student will be informed via email about the administrative procedure, before coming to the secretary to receive his stage folder.
All administrative documents will be personnaly given to the student by the secretary. No mailing nor downloading will be allowed, except for asking forms in english directly by mail to Ann Scholsem (see contacts).
A stage can only begin IF all the administrative procedure is done.
