Students are trained through clinical rounds, practical seminars (practical cases), realisation of clinical examinations and problem-based learning. Learning how to take a history and how to make a clinical examination will also be provided (on healthy dogs and clinical patients). They will join the last year students for consultations at the Small Animal clinic as well as in a first line community clinic.
Internal medicine and pet surgery
The training of students is provided through seminars / paraclinical practical work in dermatology (review of semiology, diagnostic test, and microscopy), uro-nephrology (urinalysis and catheterization), neurology (neurological examination) and cardiology (auscultation of murmurs and arrhythmia, blood pressure measurement) performed on a healthy +/- pathological animal and / or on a mannequin at the Skill Lab.

Medicine of birds, lagomorphs and rodents
During the clinical rotations of this EU, various learning activities will be organized to enable students to acquire the clinical skills listed in the section "Medicine of Birds, Lagomorphs and Rodents - VETE2086" of the Clinical Skills Book (Log Book). This list is available on E campus, course VETE000-4 "Master Log Book". Each student will have to attend his rotations clinics provided with a paper version of this list and have validated (signature by a teacher, assistant, scientific collaborator or internal) each of the skills as and when their realization. At the end of his clinical rotations, when he has validated all the competences listed, the student will deposit all the sheets validated for this UE at the secretariat of the pet clinic. Attention, all these sheets will have to be clearly identified (name, first name and identifier of the student) and stapled together.

Medicine of birds, lagomorphs and rodents
Notions dedicated to birds, rabbits, and new companion animals that are developed during the theoretical courses from previous years (anatomy, physiology, propaedeutics, parasitology, bacteriology, virology, ...) are of the uppermost importance. A thorough knowledge of the courses " Pets Medicine" partim new companion animals (VETE2077-1) and "Monogastric animal health management, partim poultry (VETE2083-1) is mandatory.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
During clinical rotations or practicals of this teaching unit (TU), various learning activities will be organized to allow students to acquire the clinical skills * listed in section VETE2086-1 of the clinical skills booklet of the Log Book.
Each student must have each of these skills validated (signature by a professor, assistant, scientific collaborator, internl or even authorized technician) in the electronic version of the log book along they they are done.
On the other hand, as their clinical rotations progress, the student will electronically validate the clinical cases ** that he (she) has followed in his book of faculty clinical cases (part 2 of the master's log book: book listing the clinical cases followed by the student during his master's degree under the supervision of a faculty teacher). These clinical cases will be counted at the end of the master's degree under the TU VETE2099 Integration of skills (M3).
* By validable clinical competence, we mean a competence of the Log Book that was carried out correctly and independently under the direct supervision of a member of the clinical team (internal, assistant, resident, scientific collaborator, professor or technician). The mere fact of attending a practical work or clinical act does not therefore allow per se to validate the skills taught there.
** By validable clinical case, we mean a clinical case in which the student had actively participated, namely a case for which the student had taken or had inquired about the anamnesis, on which he had carried out a clinical examination (examination general and / or special) or an autopsy, and about which he had discussed with a clinician (professor, assistant, scientific or internal collaborator), for example by proposing a differential diagnosis, additional examinations or a therapeutic plan. Participating in a clinical round, performing a technical act or applying a treatment to a clinical case therefore does not make the said case valid.
Internal medicine of pets
The student will learn during interactive seminars and rounds. In clinic (CVU or community clinic) the student will learn during the whole consultation (observation, manipulation, reflexion on the case, communication with the owners, ...)

Continuous evaluation by the staff during the week and possibility of test at the end of the week.
This mark account for 1/6 of the final mark for the clinic of small animals.
Students in September retakes will have to spend a week in the clinic at a moment determined by the incumbent (Prof. Dr D. Marlier), possibly during holiday. During this week, the staff will continuously evaluate them.
During medical consultation or visit of farms and/or bird and small mammals rehabilitation centres students must have an irreproachable attitude and behaviour. Failure to respect these indications is enough to get a serious insufficiency (7/20) as final note.
