Units courses prerequisite and corequisite

Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program

Learning unit contents

Part 1

The first part is devoted to statistical basics (descriptive statistics, probabilities). Next, experimental and theoretical distributions are introduced (binomial, hypergeometric, Poisson, Gauss-Laplace, chi-square). Probabilistic aspects of hypotheses testing (type I error, type II error, power) are described, and contingency tables are used as an example of the statistical inference concepts.

Part 2

Analysis of variance and regressions.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

Part 1

The main goal of this course is to help the students to have a statistical view of the problems they will face for their final year subject, and also in their future work. For that reason, the course is not formula or computations oriented, but more aimed at statistical reasoning, and problem solving.

Part 2

Mastering simple statistical models.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Part 2

First part of the course

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Part 2

Commented computer exercises

Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)

Part 1

The course is organised into lectures (3h00 each) and practical sessions on computers (2h30 each).

Part 2

Face to face

Organisational adjustments related to the current health context

See each course part for details.

Part 1

Exams (oral and individual) were held in January in face to face.
No exam for this course is scheduled in June.
For the September session, the eventual evaluation will be done as in January (individual oral in face to face).

Part 2

To be confirmed by the UNamur colleague

Recommended or required readings

Part 1

A copy of the course notes will be provided to the students.

Assessment methods and criteria

Below you will find information on the evaluation methods planned for in-person and remote exams as well as those planned for hybrid sessions. Depending on how the health crisis evolves, the chosen method will be communicated to you no later than one month before the start of the exam session.

Part 1

The first part is evaluated in an 20 minutes oral exam in January. The second part is evaluated in a written exam also in January. The final score is obtained as the simple average of the two scores.
