Learning unit contents
This advanced course aims at the acquisition of fundamental knowledges pertaining to vectors in the frame of emerging or reemerging diseases. Several definitions are introduced such as vectorial competence and capacity, biological and mechanical vectors, biological and non biological transmission, diapauses, solenophagy, telmophagy, vertical and transtadial transmissions ... The course aims also at the study of arthropod and non-arthropod vectors: morphology, biology, direct and indirect pathogenic impact. The main groups of vectors or pseudo vectors are studied: insects, acarines, mollusks ...
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
To remind fundamental knowledges about the studied organisms, to identify the key factors which play a role in the epidemiology of the vectorial diseases, to acquire the expertise for the identification of the main groups of vectors (at the family or genus level). Allow the implementation by he participants of relevant control measures for each group of vectors.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
General biology, general microbiology, epidemiology applied to medical sciences, medical and veterinary entomology.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The practicals consist in the examination of typical examples belonging to different orders or families : Muscidae, Tabanidae, Calliphoridae, Glossinidae, Hippoboscidae, Culicidae, Ceratopogonidae, Phlebotomidae, Ixodidae, Acaridiae, Siphonaptera, Phtiraptera.

The time table is established on an annual basis by the coordinator.

Assessment methods and criteria
Below you will find information on the evaluation methods planned for in-person and remote exams as well as those planned for hybrid sessions. Depending on how the health crisis evolves, the chosen method will be communicated to you no later than one month before the start of the exam session.
The evaluation is organised by the coordinator with participation of all participating lecturers.
