Learning unit contents
The aim of this lecture is to teach the basis knowledge in crop production applicable in all cultivated areas of the planet. Starting from ecophysiological characteristics of model plants growing in temperate and tropical areas, it aims to present the main factors influencing performances and durability of the exploitation of plants grown in the major types of cropping systems.
The sequence of technical interventions, the choice and the terms of use of the inputs needed to optimize wheat production in temperate areas will be reasoned according to the plant ecophysiology, the pedoclimatic and agronomic characteristics of the environment and according to the searched opportunities.
These modes of crop management will be compared with production techniques implemented for other characteristics field crops (rice and coffe tree in particular) of the main cropping systems in tropical areas and in the horticultural speculations.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
The knowledge objectives are the acquisition of basic knowledge about the influence of production techniques on the development and the crop growth, the production limitations due to the main abiotic, biotic and socio-economic constraints.
The objectives of competences are the ability to analyse, understand and discuss the main factors influencing the performances and the durability of plants productions and the impact of various stages of the technical itinerary implemented in growing conditions and ecosystems existing in temperate and tropical areas.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
AGRO0001 - Basics of agriculture
AGRO0002 - Crop Nutrition and fertilisation
AGRO0021 - Basics of crop science
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Lectures "ex cathedra", are largely illustrated with slideshows and movies. Students are likely to answer questions at any times.
Diverse "popular documents", intended for a wide audience are proposed to the students.
The teaching materials will contain elements in French and English
Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)
Face-to-face
Organisational adjustments related to the current health context
Recommended or required readings
At end of each chapter , powerpoint showed is placed at students disposal on e-Campus
Assessment methods and criteria
Below you will find information on the evaluation methods planned for in-person and remote exams as well as those planned for hybrid sessions. Depending on how the health crisis evolves, the chosen method will be communicated to you no later than one month before the start of the exam session.
