Learning unit contents

TMEM0561-1 Thesis is a course in block 2 of the master's degree (Q9+Q10) which is organised to help students formalise their thesis.
The thesis is a personal piece of work that is done at the end of the master's degree. The thesis is supervised by the sponsor and possibly a co-sponsor; the TFE coordinators for each Axes guide students and helps them to accomplish the various necessary administrative tasks. F. Péters and J. Vancraiwinkel will also helps the students and coordinators with the administrative tasks.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

By the end of the course, students will be able to use the knowledge they have learnt to implement a personal, methodical and scientifically rigorous approach relating to a research question in architecture or closely related fields. In particular, the thesis will demonstrate the students' ability to structure their thoughts, support a critical stance, rationalise their practice, and communicate the results of their approach in a well-argued manner.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Have sufficient knowledge of the bibliographical, methodological and communication tools required to write a scientific text.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

TMEM0561-1 Thesis is course that aims to help students write their thesis. The sponsors advise students and supervise them throughout their work. If necessary, they put them in touch with resource persons.

Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)

Every piece of work is supervised by a sponsor and possibly one or two co-sponsors, depending on the specificities of the approach.

Organisational adjustments related to the current health context

Online TFE defences if the health context does not allow face-to-face defence.

Assessment methods and criteria

Below you will find information on the evaluation methods planned for in-person and remote exams as well as those planned for hybrid sessions. Depending on how the health crisis evolves, the chosen method will be communicated to you no later than one month before the start of the exam session.

Organizational remarks

Students are responsible for finding out when the data sheet and the thesis have to be submitted. This information will be given to students and the sponsors by the thesis coordinators at the beginning of the academic year (information session or email) and, at least, via the e-Campus platform.
Students must respect the deadlines to ensure practical, didactic and administrative matters are properly managed.

Except justification validated by the promotor and or the coordinators of TFE, any students who don't submit their data sheet or who don't respect the deadlines will be automatically deferred and a mark of 0/20 will be given.
