Units courses prerequisite and corequisite

Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program

Learning unit contents

The course will provide a non-mathematical insight into the physics of the standard particle model, and explain how astrophysical observations have constrained its properties, and suggest that the discovery of new physics laws could take place in the near future.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

This course aims at providing the students with a synthesis of current knowledge in the field of astroparticles. At the end of the course, the students will be able to understand and outline the structure of the standard model of particle physics, its implications for astrophysics and the experimental results that suggest that new laws / particles are required. The course will provide the basic knowledge necessary to effectively address and comment on current issues related to particles and astroparticles.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

None

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

This course is based on lectures,  and to discussion sessions.

Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)

Face-to-face

Organisational adjustments related to the current health context

Recommended or required readings

The references for each lecture, and copies of the transparencies are available on the course web pages https://www.theo.phys.ulg.ac.be/wiki/Courses

Assessment methods and criteria

Below you will find information on the evaluation methods planned for in-person and remote exams as well as those planned for hybrid sessions. Depending on how the health crisis evolves, the chosen method will be communicated to you no later than one month before the start of the exam session.

Any session :

- In-person

written exam AND oral exam

- Remote

oral exam

- If evaluation in "hybrid"

preferred remote

Additional information:

Written exam, followed by a discussion.
If the colour code of the pandemic is yellow or green, the examination will be held in person. Otherwise, it will be held on Lifesize.
