Learning unit contents

The main theoretical chapters are as follows:
Partim 1 Introduction 1. Observing the atmosphere 2. Radiative processes and energy balance 3. Thermostatics
Partim 2 4. Atmosphere fundamental equations 5. Theory of atmospheric movements (geostrophic approximation, thermal wind, atmospheric waves, etc) 6. The planetary boundary layer (atmospheric turbulence) 7. Saturation and condensation processes 8. Large-scale atmospheric circulation  

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

The objective of the course is an introduction to atmopheric dynamics and meteorological processes.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Good knowledge of mathematics and mechanics, basic knowledge of thermodynamics and fluid mechanics (especially for partim 2).

Exercises linked to the various chapters.

January session: oral examination in distance via Lifesize, organized on January 19, 2021. Timetable sent in good time by e-mail to students registered for the course. Practical examination (exercises) also online, organized on January 20, 2021.
