Units courses prerequisite and corequisite

Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program

Learning unit contents

THIS COURSE WILL NOT BE ORGANIZED IN 2020-2021.

We present the mathematical concepts necessary for understanding general relativity.

- Tensorial analysis in flat spaces;
- Parallel transport on affine manifolds;
- Definition and properties of the Riemann-Christoffel tensor;
- Bianchi identities;
- Riemannian manifolds.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

The learning outcome of the course will be the ability of students to understand the mathematical sense of the Einstein field equations (which will be developed in course SPAT0012-3).

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Course SPAT0012-1

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

None.

Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)

Face-to-face.

Organisational adjustments related to the current health context

Recommended or required readings

- Lecture notes (in french);
- Bernard F. Schutz, « A first course in general relativity », second edition, Cambridge University Press, 2009.

Assessment methods and criteria

Below you will find information on the evaluation methods planned for in-person and remote exams as well as those planned for hybrid sessions. Depending on how the health crisis evolves, the chosen method will be communicated to you no later than one month before the start of the exam session.
