Introduction to the fundamental concepts and notions for the validation of a quantitative analytical method. On this occasion, the criteria generally used to certify the validity of analytical procedures are defined. Different validation protocols are also illustrated. In this context, the purpose of the validation is clarified. It seems reasonable to say that validation protocols give laboratories and the competent authorities the guarantees that each measurement that will be routinely carried out, once the procedure has been validated, will be sufficiently close to the unknown "true value" of the sample or at least within an acceptable limit, depending on the purpose of the procedure. The aim is to minimise the risk both for the producer and the future consumer. Therefore, the objective of the validation is not simply to obtain estimators of bias and accuracy. However, these parameters are nevertheless essential elements for the establishment of the above-mentioned guarantees.
