Learning unit contents

Part A

The lecture is divided into several chapters which are arbitrarily ordered. It is misleading to believe that physics is an assembly of small independent parts. The subdivision of the lecture is mainly related to the cutting of the lectures over the academic calendar.
Outline - Introduction to physical dimensions and variables - 1D motion - 2D-3D motions - Force - Work done by a force, Energy - Momentum and collisions - Rotations - Angular momentum - Static equilibrium - Gravitation - Oscillations - Optics (Archi.)

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

Part A

The aim of the lectures is to give the students a basic knowledge on physical mechanics. Focus is put on an intuitive and phenomenological presentation in order to develop some physical sense. This organisation is supposed to facilitate the access to more complete formalism during the following years of studies.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Part A

Elementary skills on mathematics and physics at the level of secondary school.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Part A

Series of exercices are organized. These activities take place with smaller groups for encouraging the inter-activity.

Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)

Part A

Lectures are jointly given to students in engineers and architecture. A total of 20h (25h. archi). of theoretical lectures and 20h (25h archi.) of exercicesis planned. Theoretical lectures are ex cathedra and mainly concern the explanation of fundamental concepts. During training meetings, this theoretical knowledge is applied. In both types of lessons, a special care is taken for emphasizing the role played by the different concepts in the work of engineers. Lectures are organized during the first half of the academic year.

Orange code: The in situ allowed population is divided by 2. The practical sessions are multiplied in order to allow each student to participate in at least a session concerning each topic. Theoretical lessons are either split or split between two amphitheatres.
Red code: everything is in virtual mode. The schedule remains unchanged with respect to orange code. Practices are done in small groups to increase interactivity. The course is always masterful, with FAQ sessions. Everything takes place on eCampus.
In all cases, even green code, all lessons are recorded and podcast. If needed, new podcasts are produced.
