The course will analyze the relations between scientific practices and social and politcal issues
Advanced philosophy of sciences
Starting from specific issues of contemporary science (especially in mathematics, physics and biology), epistemological questions will be raised within a dialogue between scientists and philosophers.

Seminar on the philosophy of sciences
Students are expected to attend three meetings and one teaching session : march 30 and 31, april, 1, 2 and 3.
Advanced philosophy of sciences
The seminar is devoted to the consideration of questions in the fields of
-general epistemology (including realism in science);
-philosophy of mathematics (including the notions of completeness and incompleteness),
-philosophy of physics (including issues related to general relativity and quantum mechanics);
-philosophy of biology (including sexual and asexual reproduction, sexual differentiation; genetic manipulation as well as egg and embryo manipulation; origin of life and life diversification; origin of man and genetic diversity; anthropogenic influences and ecology).
The detailed program of the seminar will be fixed at the beginning of the academic year in the eyes of the students attending it.
Students who would like to attend the seminar are requested to contact the teachers before the 1st of October 2020.
First session of the seminar should be held on Wednesday the 7th of October from 1 to 3pm.

Additional information:
Oral and written presentation of an essay (10 pages) articulating epistemological questions with some of the scientific problems considered in the seminar. These scientific problems should be adequately mastered.
The topic of the essay should be chosen before March 31. The essay itself should be orally presented at the beginning of May and handed in before May 17 (or August 15).
