Learning unit contents
The objective of this course is to assimilate the physicochemical principles necessary to pharmaceutical dosage forms formulation.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
The aim of this course is to know the physicochemical notions useful for the pharmaceutical formulation and the administration of the drugs.
- Know the components of a medicine
- To be able to define the different properties of solids, solutions and dispersed systems.
- Know the behaviors of these systems
- To be able to quote and explain the different methods of analysis and their properties
- The properties of the solid state
- Pharmaceutical solutions
- The rheology of fluids
- The properties of dispersed systems
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
This course is based on courses which will be given partly face-to-face and partly in line. During some courses, Wooclap sessions will be organized on the subject of the previous course (s). These Wooclap sessions are intended to allow the student to verify the acquisition of his knowledge and to prepare him for the questions of the QCM exam.
Full course informations, slides and podcasts will be available on the online course via e-campus.
On the e-campus online course, the student will also find exercise sessions to be performed, videos illustrating certain parts of the course, seminars to be carried out online (MANDATORY), a glossary containing the definition of terms discussed in the course .
Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)
The course is given partly in classroom (face-to-face) and partly in line
Seminars must be followed online via the e-campus course
The online course e-campus includes additional informations to the course.
Organisational adjustments related to the current health context
The modalities for the exams will be as follows:
The written exam will take place online via the ecampus platform. The questions will be MCQ or true/false.
The oral examination will take place online via Collaborate.
If the health situation allows it, the written exam will take place in an amphitheater and the oral examination will take place in person.
Recommended or required readings
A copy of the slides is available online
Reference books (not mandatory):
- Physicochemical Principles of Pharmacy - 4th Edition - A.T.Florence and D.Attwood - Macmillan Press Ltd - 1998

Assessment methods and criteria
Below you will find information on the evaluation methods planned for in-person and remote exams as well as those planned for hybrid sessions. Depending on how the health crisis evolves, the chosen method will be communicated to you no later than one month before the start of the exam session.
Any session :
- In-person
written exam ( multiple-choice questionnaire ) AND oral exam
- Remote
written exam AND oral exam
- If evaluation in "hybrid"
preferred in-person
Additional information:
The evaluation consists of a written part (in the form of multiple-choice QCMs) and an oral part, which give rise to two separate sub-notes. Students who do not receive a sub-note equal or higher than 10/20 at the writing part are not eligible to present the oral part and receive a sub-note of zero. The final note is the geometrical average of the two sub-notes.
! The realization of all online seminars (available on ecampus) is mandatory and only students who have completed all seminars are admitted to the QCM examination
The students presenting the examination in the second session present both parts of the examination on the same principle as stated above. There is no partial exemption between January and September
A copy consultation session is organized in amphitheater or in line.
When encoding the educational commitments, the sanitary situation remains uncertain for this academic year. Organizational changes are therefore possible during the year. Students will be notified of any changes in due time.
If the health situation does not allow the organization of the written and oral exam in person, the written exam will be organized via ecampus. The questions will be of the QCM or true / false type, partial negative scoring will be activated. The oral exam will be organized through Collaborate. The other modalities remain unchanged.
