Learning unit contents
Higher Education Pedagogy (HEP) is still a pretty young research field in Belgium. It is, however, enriched by numerous publications, specialized international conferences and a very important reflexive activity
The students will discover, through this course, the specific function of "Developer" (D) in Higher Education.
Please note that this function is to be differentiated from that in the context of primary or secondary education: it is organized through reference grids, activities and missions specific to the context of higher education.
This course offers participants :
- to discover the reality of developers through reading and participating in activities and seminars/webinars ;
- to deepen one of the developers' missions by documenting it (reference book, web sites, testimonies) as well as participating in synchronous and asynchronous online discussions ;
- (in small groups) to scientifically contribute to the field of HEP by producing a short video and commentaries on a professional web site linked to the chosen developers' mission as well as by moderating a professional webinar.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
Through its learning and evaluation situations, similar to those in which a developer is supposed to act, the participants will develop the following competence:
"To develop his professionalism as a higher education developer,
- by enrolling in a continuous learning process
- contributing to the development of the profession
- by demonstrating professional ethics,
Note for students enrolled in the Master in Educational Sciences: The course will contribute to the development of the first competence of the referential of the ULIège Master, slighhtly modified (by the teacher) as follows: "Analyze education / training situations by referring to conceptual frameworks from the interdisciplinary field of educational sciences (models, existing literature) and taking into account the contexts and the different actors of these situations (ages, places of life and training, functioning systems, meaning for every actor). "
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
The QAPES-partim1 course is a co-requisite for the participants who don't have any experience as teachers or developers in higher education. In particular, that experience could facilitate contacts with the witnessing professionals.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The students will work in small groups, although the first steps of their work will remain individual. They will read several chapters of a reference manual, interview a developer, realize a video/powtoon presentation, and interact online following several modalities.
In order for them to deepen the topic they have chosen, students will read and document their ideas (articles, conference proceedings, books, professional testimonials, online sites) and participate in internal seminars (online).
Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)
All the activities of this course will be online, often synchronous. The exact dates of the synchronous sessions will be specified in the online course space.
This course can also be chosen as a "free" option (for those who have not enrolled in the Master in Educational Sciences of ULiège), as it is organized fully online.
Organisational adjustments related to the current health context
This course is already organized fully online.
Recommended or required readings
A specific book will be used, from Daele et Sylvestre (2016): « Comment développer le conseil pédagogique dans l'enseignement supérieur ? ».
Other readings will have to be considered, targeting different missions of the developer, according to the themes/missions selected by the course participants.
Assessment methods and criteria
Below you will find information on the evaluation methods planned for in-person and remote exams as well as those planned for hybrid sessions. Depending on how the health crisis evolves, the chosen method will be communicated to you no later than one month before the start of the exam session.
Participation in the training activities is mandatory in order to access evaluation for this course.
The development of the targeted competences (it italic upper) will be evaluated through a written production, such as a "portfolio" (gathering selected and commented traces of the competence).
Work placement(s)
None
Organizational remarks
The precise dates of the online synchronous sessions (mandatory) will soon be specified.
