Schedule
Units courses prerequisite and corequisite
Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program
Learning unit contents
In part 2, an entry by "content" is preferred, with a willingness to develop continuity in learning mathematics from kindergarten to the beginning of secondary school.
Several themes are developed including the first numerical learnings, the articulation between arithmetic and algebra and in the continuity from kindergarten to lower secondary school level, the proportional reasoning, fractions and geometry.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
Students will understand the underlying theoretical foundations of the different themes and better understand some aspects of the cognitive development of pupils towards mathematics learning to
- identify issues related to the learning of basic mathematical concepts
- (better) interpret errors, difficulties and informal strategies of students
- take a critical look at different teaching and learning activities;
- develop didactical designs for the development of specific knowledge and skills;
- assess learning achieved by students in various didactical designs.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The methodology will consist of alternating theoretical presentations, analyses of student productions and analyses of teaching / learning activities.
Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)
- distance learning (theoretical part)
- face-to-face for the exploitation of practical work (depending of health situation)
Organisational adjustments related to the current health context
- distance learning (theoretical part)
- face-to-face for the exploitation of practical work (depending of the sanitary situation)
Assessment : face-to-face or distance (eCampus) depending of the sanitary situation
Recommended or required readings
The ppt (and associated notes taking) form the basis of the course. They are available on eCampus
Assessment methods and criteria
Below you will find information on the evaluation methods planned for in-person and remote exams as well as those planned for hybrid sessions. Depending on how the health crisis evolves, the chosen method will be communicated to you no later than one month before the start of the exam session.
Any session :
- In-person
written exam ( multiple-choice questionnaire, open-ended questions )
- Remote
written exam
- If evaluation in "hybrid"
preferred in-person
Additional information:
Written exams (MCQ + Opend Questions) + Report (practical work)
The report about the practical work (PW) will be account for 20% of the overall score. If this report is missing, the mark for this course will be "0".
Furthermore, any serious deficiency (score < 8) in one of the two parts of the assessment (exam or PW) leads to a serious failure for the entire course.
