Based on researches, it deals with different topics about media impact in several domains (e.g. communication, learning, work environment management, private life, digital identity, citizenship...).
Links are made with educational programs.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
The course aims at developing the learner's media literacy:
- Define the concepts of media and media literacy
- Distinguish media education and education supported by media
- Exploit a typology crossing categories of activities and dimensions of media objects
- Analyse educational programs or documents (research papers or reports) related to educational media
- Search and select information on a given topic
- Verify the sources quality
- Produce multimedia contents
- Implement a research procedure to deal with a question concerning a course topic.
- Respect legal aspects of the use of ICT and media
- Jugde the interest of using a personal learning environment
- Identify the pedagogical purpose related to the use of a video
- Analyse a serious game from a criterated grid

- Teacher's and experts' lectures
- Learners' presentations on the analysis of different media reffering to the same subject

- Collaborative work: case study on the legal aspects of the use of ICT and media
- Creation and implementation of a pedagogical activity aiming at developping one media education competence
- Use of different services of documents edition, communication and sharing
- Use of the eCampus platform to communicate and share information with the professor and peers
- Concrete learning and communication distance activities (f.i. through the use of a distance learning platform)

The course consists in face-to-face activities.

Assessment methods and criteria
Below you will find information on the evaluation methods planned for in-person and remote exams as well as those planned for hybrid sessions. Depending on how the health crisis evolves, the chosen method will be communicated to you no later than one month before the start of the exam session.
Any session :

written exam AND oral exam
- Remote
oral exam AND written work
- If evaluation in "hybrid"

Additional information:
Professor's expectations: Active learners, having critical points of views, able to initiate themselves to different techniques and to make links with other courses.
The assessment is based on:
1. Media reading (presentation of a topic based on 3 media resources, with at least one scientific article) - Groupwork.
2. Creation of an activity aiming at developping one media education skill - Individually
3. Case study on the legal aspect of ICT and media uses - By group of two or three
Validation requests the submission of the three parts.
Work placement(s)
Work placements in educational technologies are proposed by the CRIFA (Centre de Recherche sur l'Instrumentation, la Formation et l'Apprentissage) Team.

This course take place every other year, odd-numbered years (2019-2020, 2021-2022, ...).
Most part of the course will take place in class but some hours will be released for home work.
