Learning unit contents

This course aims at introducing the concepts that frame Science Teaching and Learning to students, as well as the main results of research in this area.
The course focuses on the following contents:
- The conceptions about science and about the teaching and learning of science
- The students' (mis)conceptions - the conceptual change
- The scientific inquiry
- The role of language in science: written and oral languages
- Images, visual representations and modelization in science

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

Students will understand the main didactical concepts that structure science learning and teaching. They will be able to step back from the usual teaching practices in science and will use the didactical tools and concepts in a teaching practice and/or in teacher education. They will be able to  assess/ to comprehend the learning constructed in the different learning settings.

Group works, face-to-face sessions

The course is organized as follows:


  •  8 to 10 face-to-face sessions of 3 hours (lectures)
  • A practical work

Assessment methods and criteria

Below you will find information on the evaluation methods planned for in-person and remote exams as well as those planned for hybrid sessions. Depending on how the health crisis evolves, the chosen method will be communicated to you no later than one month before the start of the exam session.
