Learning unit contents

The goal of this course is for the students to develop competencies related to setting up training strategies that are pertinent, adaptive and innovative.
The content is structured according to the three major steps of training engineering, which are:

  • the conception of a training session. This includes, among others, the analysis of the demand and the needs, the construction or negotiation of the objectives, the analysis of the situation of the trained individuals, the choice of a training strategy, the elaboration of a program, the conception or adaptation of training series, and the creation of training material and tools.
  • the management of the training session, including the management of critical incidents, the questions of deontology, and the follow-up of the program.
  • the evaluation of a training session, including quality criteria, evaluation methods and questions regarding transfer to the field.
The content of this course can be applied to training in various fields: training for commercial and non-commercial organizations, training aimed at individuals who are searching for employment, training in the field of civic responsibility, the socio-cultural field and the field of permanent education.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

The goal of the course is to prepare the students to:

  • perform the analysis of a request for a specific training
  • understand the challenges of need, demand, and ordering analyses
  • create a training program in its various dimensions (overall structure, goals, pedagogical setting, evaluation methods)
  • develop creativity in the building of training strategies
  • develop analysis abilities relative to the building of training strategies
  • anticipate and handle critical incidents
  • take into account the different dimensions of a training program: personal, pedagogical, social, group-related, ethical and deontological
  • take into account the diversity of personal use of training activities
  • take into account the diversity of social use of training activities
  • defend a training program in front of an associate

Recommended or required readings

Supporting notes are available at the "Unite d'Apprentissage et de Formation Continue des Adultes".
They include:

  • class notes put together by the lecturer
  • a reading file
  • the slides used during classes
  • case study exercises

Assessment methods and criteria

Below you will find information on the evaluation methods planned for in-person and remote exams as well as those planned for hybrid sessions. Depending on how the health crisis evolves, the chosen method will be communicated to you no later than one month before the start of the exam session.

Student evaluation is based on the presentation of a group project (4 or 5 students), representing the proposal of a complete training scheme (structure, objectives, analysis, material, evaluation, anticipation of potential critical incidents). The proposal follows a real demand from an associate (individual in charge of training, trainer, manager of human resources,...). The exam takes place in the presence of this individual.
