Learning unit contents
The course will consist of a hands-on discovery of computational and statistical tools suitable for the analysis of biological data sets.
Various concepts will be reviewed through exercices, from general concepts (vectors and matrices, tests of normality, equivalence testing) to the implementation of integrated analysis solutions required by specific problems.
Specifically, the course will focus on the use of the R language and several related packages.
Applications of PCA analysis and clustering to oceanographic data will be done.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
The aim of the lecture is to make students familiar with Rand with the use of (basics) statistics using R.

Les étudiants sont invités à revoir les bases qu'ils auraient déjà acquises dans les domaines suivants : statistique et programmation.

Mini theoretical lectures, demonstrations and step by step exercises, practical work on computer with challenges to solve and independent practice.

Recommended or required readings
The slides and the exercises will be made available online just before every course at the provided web address.. For the part with Marilaure Grégoire, the book Numerical Ecology with R by iDaniel Borcard, François Gillet, Pierre Legendre can be recommended (the whole book will not be seen).
Assessment methods and criteria
Below you will find information on the evaluation methods planned for in-person and remote exams as well as those planned for hybrid sessions. Depending on how the health crisis evolves, the chosen method will be communicated to you no later than one month before the start of the exam session.
The course evaluation will be based on a written examination + a homework (ocean part).
The homework will be submitted in January.
For the first part (Prof. Meyer) an online interrogation will be held on ecampus by the end of October. The details (date, hours, process,...) are available our web page for this class.

Organizational remarks
The use of a laptop is required at all sessions to follow demonstrations and conduct personal programming exercises. The free software RStudio is available on our servers via any web browser.
