Learning outcomes of the learning unit
To learn about the role of the ocean in the climate system. How to use tracers (stable or radioactive isotopes) to interpret changes in past circulation, how to obtain information about present-day processes (rate of exchange with the atmosphere, characteristic time for the mixing of deep waters...).
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Good knowledge of physical oceanography (as presented in the course OCEA00010-1 for example) is imperative. Should have knowledge of concepts of meteorology, chemistry and geochemistry. This course is for all oceanography students.
