Learning unit contents

- Epidemiology and biostatistics
- Descriptive biostatistics and statistical inference
- Measurement and interpretation of the dispersion and shape of a distribution
- Types of epidemiological studies (descriptive, analytical, interventional,
evaluative)
- Identification of the objectives of medical tests
- Definition of tests performance
- Selection of a test based on its analytical performances.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

- Defining basic concepts in biostatistics and in occupational Epidemiology
- Defining and describing the characteristics of basic statistical indices
- Discussing the situations in which these various indices should be best used
- Types of epidemiological studies
- Understanding and discussing the basic rules of probability applicable to the interpretation of quantitative results
