Documentary techniques for physical and rehabilitative activities in motor sciences
During their studies, students have many opportunities to become independent in terms of researching, evaluating and using scientific information. This course represents one such opportunity.
The purpose of this theoretical and practical course is to teach students how to search relevant scientific documents/information, using the most appropriate resources available in the library and on the web, developing a critical approach to the available information.
The knowledge and skills acquired on this course will be useful both throughout students' academic studies (for example, to supplement lecture notes or when producing work) and in their professional career (for example, in finding information to justify/support decisions in the context of "evidence-based practice").
The course focuses on the following topics:
- search tools and methodologies to search information on motor skills, both directed towards the professional practice and/or to scientific research;
- plagiarism and rules on citing references;
- information monitoring.
Use of a statistical software
Introduction to the statistical package R - Rcmdr
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
Evidence Based Practice
The objective of this course is to provide the student with elements required to critically appraise the scientific data of his future professional activities, and his end of study work.
Documentary techniques for physical and rehabilitative activities in motor sciences
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
- independently search - materials covered in class and using the most efficient research strategies - relevant scientific documentation and information requiring a "high level of proof ;
- cite their references when writing a document;
- monitor their information.
Use of a statistical software
At the end of the course, the student should be able to use the main functions of R

This course is based primarily on a series lectures. However, it is organised in such a way as to encourage students' active participation. Exercises are to be prepared at home. The completion of these exercises requires the use of a computer and the internet (students have access to various rooms equipped with computers and wireless terminals within the University). More information will be provided during the first class.
