Schedule
Units courses prerequisite and corequisite
Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program
Learning unit contents
The goal is to establish a general theoretical framework in which all conservation laws can be expressed in a very general way. The theory of constitutive models, including the study of the main axioms that are generally assumed is then introduced. In particular it is shown that linear models, both for fluids and solids, are particular cases of the general non linear theory. Eventually, some introductions to techniques aiming at finding approximate solutions to partial differential equations are introduced.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
In depth understanding of the fundamental hypothesis, and the implications of such hypothesis, that governs the movement of a continuum body.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Mechanics of materials.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Exercises + personal project
Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)
2nd quadrimester.
Organisational adjustments related to the current health context
Recommended or required readings
English version of the slides available via eCampus. French version of lecture notes is available at the CDC (Centrale des Cours). CDC also provides paper copies of the slides.
Assessment methods and criteria
Below you will find information on the evaluation methods planned for in-person and remote exams as well as those planned for hybrid sessions. Depending on how the health crisis evolves, the chosen method will be communicated to you no later than one month before the start of the exam session.
Any session :
- In-person
oral exam
- Remote
oral exam
- If evaluation in "hybrid"
preferred in-person
Additional information:
First session takes place in June.
If there is a project:
Theory and applications: oral exam (70%)
Personal project (30%)
The grade for the project is final.
If there is no project: Theory and applications: oral exam (100%)
Work placement(s)
Organizational remarks
A priori, the teaching will be face-to-face, but this depends of course on the evolution of the Covid pandemic.
