Learning unit contents

In this paper we will read and analyse some major Italian authors and literary texts, from Dante Alighieri to Eugenio Montale.
This year we will consider some of the most important metrical forms of the Italian poetic tradition, focussing on the relation between rhythm and subjectivity.
 

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

Reading, translation, analysis and discussion of Italian literary texts.
Basic knowledge of Italian literary culture, of Italian authors and literary trends, and of the transformation of literary forms and literary language across the centuries.
Familiarity with the main research tools available in our libraries (if accessible during term) and online.
 
 

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Good proficiency in both written and spoken Italian.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The paper will be given in Italian and studens are encouraged - although this is optional - to speak and write in Italian to the professor.
All didactic materials will be in Italian only.
 

Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)

Distant course : lectures and videoconferences on Lifesize. Some seminars in class will be held during the term (if the COVID-19 situation allows it).

Assessment methods and criteria

Below you will find information on the evaluation methods planned for in-person and remote exams as well as those planned for hybrid sessions. Depending on how the health crisis evolves, the chosen method will be communicated to you no later than one month before the start of the exam session.

Additional information:

Oral exam in Italian or French, in class or on Lifesize (depending on the COVID-19 situation). In alternative: preparation of a written paper in Italian and oral presentation of it during one of the final sessions of the course in December.
