The course begins with a presentation of the general theory of...
- principles, issues and methods for analyzing discourse
- its structural, enunciative, pragmatic, intertextual, generic, and sociolinguistic viewpoints
- its relationship with the other fields of linguistics and language sciences.
The selection for the corpus is based on the students' interests or their personal projects, and the participants are expected to take active part in the analytical work.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
Introduce the participants to the principles and analytical methods of discourse, and give them an opportunity to put them into practice to clarify the issues and the functioning of various kinds of discourse, or of discursive systems generally.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Some knowledge in linguistics.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The students are expected to participate actively in the discussions provoked and the practical exercises and case studies that are put to them.
Students will analyze a corpus of their choice. Their work will be evaluated which will be specified in the course.
