Units courses prerequisite and corequisite

Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program

Learning unit contents

  • CEFRL levels of the course: C1 (level 6)
The course will be devoted to the improvement of the oral expression skill and reading comprehension skill through authentic articles from the Dutch press.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

This is the last year of a 6-year programme. The final objective is a fluent written and oral practice of Dutch.
The sixth part focuses on the perfect knowledge of Dutch grammar and vocabulary. This will be practised through debates.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

The student should have attended the first five years of the program or have a very good level in Dutch to be able to follow this class.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Groups of two students will be established at the beginning of the year. They will choose an article (2-3 pages without images) from the Dutch press dated at least July 2014. They will prepare a list of vocabulary (1-2 pages) that they will distribute one week before the presentation of their text to the other students. Each week (1 hour), a group will be responsible for leading a discussion on the article they have chosen. The other students have to prepare the article and to participate actively in the debate. In total, approximately twenty texts will be presented.

Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)

2 hours every week during Q1. It is possible to follow @lter at the same time.

Organisational adjustments related to the current health context

If code orange: no change of modalities and written exam in the classroom
If code red: distance written exam. Students will then receive the topics for their essay at the date and time originally scheduled for the exam and via the DISCORD "Fnovakovic" network, at the following address
https://discord.gg/vaVwGdD
They will have 2 hours to write their argumentative text and send it back to fanny.novakovic@uliege.be.

Recommended or required readings

  • Recommended grammar coursebook: Nederlands - Niveau 1 en 2 - Oefeningen bij de spraakkunst, L.Gehlen. (Intercopy)
  • Articles will be distributed by the students

Assessment methods and criteria

Below you will find information on the evaluation methods planned for in-person and remote exams as well as those planned for hybrid sessions. Depending on how the health crisis evolves, the chosen method will be communicated to you no later than one month before the start of the exam session.

The choice of articles, the respect of the deadlines, the animation of their own debates and the active participation in the other students' s debates will be marked (50% of the final note). Written examination in January. The written exam (50% of the final note) will include a written exercise on one or more articles submitted during the year.
