Learning outcomes of the learning unit

Being able to use Dutch as an everyday language as well as the basic structures of the Dutch language. This course aims at developing the four language skills: listening and reading comprehension, written expression and to a lesser degree oral expression. The mastery of level A2 of the CEFRL is a condition to reach level B2 at the end of the bachelor, which is the objective in the KLO's.
Strategy : To a certain degree, the course will allow students to demonstrate scientific precision and a critical mind and to show creativity and autonomy in order to adapt themselves to the needs of a fast-evolving world.
Communication : The course will allow students to communicate in a simple way about their needs, projects and environment. It represents indeed the first and compulsory step to develop an efficient communication about the business world.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

This course is aimed at the students who had 4 to 6 hours of Dutch class a week for 4 to 6 years  during their secondary school education and who reached at least the level A1 of the Common European Framework of Reference.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The students are invited to participate during the lessons (questions and answers, roleplays, discussions...). They also have to prepare the lessons at home (reading texts, grammatical rules and preparing all kinds of exercises)

Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)

face-to-face (two hours every fortnight) and homework

Workload for the student: 3 credit course: 3 times 30 h = 90 h
Class attendance: 24 or 26 h Reading, preparing the exercises and studying: 66 or 64 h

Organisational adjustments related to the current health context

For codes yellow and orange, the course is given in the classroom for the number of students does not exceed 50. Moreover, it is a course of the first year of the bachelor. Students who are ill or in quarantine, can follow the course thanks to podcasts (available on the learning platform Lola).
If the situation evoluates towards code red, then the course will be given via Collaborate (on the learning platform Lola).
The evaluation in January (written examen - vocabulary and grammar; listening comprehension test) could take place in classrooms with respect of all sanitary measures. We intend to adopt the same solution for the examen in June: written exam, listening comprehension test and reading comprehension test in the classrooms with respect of all sanitary measures.
If it is impossible to organize the examens of June in the classrooms, then we will have an oral exam online with Collaborate.
