THIS COURSE IS NOT INTENDED FOR NATIVE SPEAKERS OF GERMAN!
 
The aim of this course is to improve the knowledge and the know-how acquired by the student, on a linguistic level (structures, specific vocabulary) and in the understanding of German (business-) culture.

Taught in German - and in French for grammar explanations

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

In connection with the KLOs, this course aims at helping the students:
- to communicate in a precise and fluent way in German, orally and in writing;
- to adapt their language and their register to the situation, being aware of its multicultural components;
- to be autonomous;
- to be curious and rigorous;
- to take the social, economic, political and environmental reality of German speaking countries into account.
 
Reachable level at the end of the class: European level B2+ 

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Having passed the exam for advanced students in the 3rd Bachelor's degree (LANG1918-1) or having a european B2 level

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Discovering different aspects of business life in Germany (vocabulary, cultural and economical aspects).
Exercises in class or at home to improve the 4 skills (writing, reading, speaking and understanding).
Debates; presentations.

Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)

24 h lectures in the class-room and homework.
Due to the sanitary crisis, a part of the course (or all of it) may have to be done remotely. The students will be informed according to the evolution of the situation.

Translating dictionary, for example Harrap's or Langenscheidt or online dictionary.
Grammar book, for example H. DREYER et R. SCHMITT: Grammaire allemande avec exercices. Hueber, or : H. BOUILLON: "Grammaire pratique de l'allemand", De Boeck, 4th edition, 2015.

Assessment methods and criteria

Below you will find information on the evaluation methods planned for in-person and remote exams as well as those planned for hybrid sessions. Depending on how the health crisis evolves, the chosen method will be communicated to you no later than one month before the start of the exam session.

Any session :

written exam ( open-ended questions )

- Remote

oral exam

- If evaluation in "hybrid"

Additional information:

Tests during the semester in class !
Compulsary presence and active participation in class (10%)
  Written exam (45 %):  Essay and listening comprehension
Oral exam (45 %):  During the semester: Presentation of a topic based documents in German 
June: Presentation of a press file and questions on the course contents
Students have to take all the different parts of the examination, otherwise the final mark will be 0/20.
 
Alternative assessment will be offered to native speakers of German.
 
Assessment methods may be adapted according to the evolution of the sanitary crisis.

Work placement(s)

Organizational remarks

Considering the sanitary context, a reduced number of students only may be able to follow the lecture in class, following an alternation system. Compensatory solutions will be provided by the lecturer according to the evolution of the situation.
