Learning unit contents
English for Physiotherapy and Sports Sciences develops skills in reading, collecting information and note taking through a corpus of scientific papers. This class articulates around authentic articles in English used for the activation and assimilation of language notions essential to academic research.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
- allow students to read and understand anglophone scientific literature in their field of specialty.
- allow students to understand short oral presentations in English.
- allow students to extend their mastery of field-specific terminology.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
A B1 level in English (reading) and basic grammatical notions.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course features two-hour in-class sessions in which the students' active participation is required (through listening and reading comprehension exercises).
Following the evolution of the current health situation and recommendations, in-class activities might have to be limited to 1h30 and coupled with online work on the eCampus page of this class.
Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)
The course is taught in groups. Class attendance is highly encouraged.
Organisational adjustments related to the current health context
If the sanitary situation deteriorates and depending on the resulting restrictions, the course workshops will be replaced with online sessions (on Collaborate or another platform). The exam will be done on eCampus if the sanitary situation does not allow for face-to-face evaluation.
The students will be informed in due time of any changes in the way the course is taught and assessed (on eCampus and by email)

The exam will take place online (eCampus - Blackboard) and will last 2 hours. All questions will be MCQs.

English for Physiotherapy and Sports Sciences course notes are available in digital format through eCampus.
Assessment methods and criteria

Additional information:
Written exam with multiple choice questions (IELTS 6.0 level) based on a research article, theory and language revised in the course.
Students must demonstrate the ability to fully understand an unabridged and unsimplified paper from a specialized journal.
